Lana Holstein, MD Lana Holstein, MD

Lana Holstein, M.D., is a nationally known expert on sexuality and vitality issues. She has extensive clinical experience in sex therapy and women's health, especially with issues surrounding midlife and menopause, and has led numerous workshop groups to enhance vitality in these areas. She is the Managing Director, Sexuality and Vitality Programs at Miraval Life in Balance, Tucson Arizona.

Dr. Holstein completed her undergraduate work at Stanford University and initially thought law was her field. However, after a year at law school, she decided to go into medicine. She completed her medical training at Yale Medical School, where she met and married classmate David Taylor. They went on to do their Family Practice residency at the University of Arizona in Tucson, and settled down to practice family medicine and raise a family in Flagstaff.

Lana's practice couldn't help but attract many women patients, and her natural warmth and openness encouraged them to share their intimate issues with her. She thus developed considerable experience and expertise in the area of women's health and sexuality, and developed a number of innovative programs for women in midlife. This ultimately led to her recruitment to serve as Director of Women's Health at Canyon Ranch Resort, and she and Dr. Taylor moved their family back to Tucson in 1993.

There, Dr. Holstein built a successful practice in sexuality counseling, and soon she and Dr. Taylor were offering what has since become their nationally acclaimed couples program to enhance intimacy and sexuality, now offered as Partners, Pleasure and Passion exclusively at world-renowned Miraval Life in Balance, also in Tucson.

In 2001, Dr. Holstein's first book, How to Have Magnificent Sex: the Seven Dimensions of a Vital Sexual Connection, was published, and this was followed in 2004 by a collaborative effort with Dr. Taylor entitled Your Long Erotic Weekend: Four Days of Passion for a Lifetime of Magnificent Sex, which describes their successful program in detail, including its important exercises recorded by the doctors themselves on the companion CD.

Most recently, Dr. Holstein has taken the position of Managing Director - Medical Programs at Miraval (repeatedly voted the world's number one destination spa resort by readers of several leading travel publications), in order to focus exclusively on her work in the area of sexuality and vitality.

Dr. Holstein has also enjoyed speaking nationally to large audiences. She created Magnificent Lovemaking, an hour-long special that was broadcast across the country on public television, and she has been a frequent guest expert on such well-known television shows as NBC's Today, the CBS Early Show, and Oprah.

David Taylor, MD David Taylor, MD

David Taylor, M.D. trained as a specialist in Family Medicine and has practiced for many years in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as being certified in the movement education and therapy practice known as the Feldenkrais Method®. He is currently Associate Director, Sexuality and Vitality Programs at Miraval Life in Balance, Tucson, Arizona.

Dr. David Taylor did his undergraduate work at Harvard College, where he majored in History and Science while preparing for medical school. He obtained his medical degree from Yale Medical School, where he met and married his classmate, Dr. Lana Holstein. They did their Family Practice Residency together as well, at the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Continuing their partnership in both life and career, Drs. Holstein and Taylor went into private practice together in Flagstaff, Arizona, and thoroughly enjoyed the challenges and rewards this offered. But new horizons beckoned both: at the same time that Lana was chosen to lead the program in women's health at Canyon Ranch Resort in Tucson, David found himself drawn to the revolutionary movement work of the Feldenkrais Method and completed its four-year training program, ultimately leading to clinical work in this area and in physical rehabilitation.

It was during this time that the doctors developed their signature couples program for sexual enhancement (Sex: Body and Soul) at Canyon Ranch. Their original description of the Seven Dimensions of Sexuality appeared in Dr. Holstein's first book, How to Have Magnificent Sex, and Dr. Taylor went on to co-author with his wife the second book, Your Long Erotic Weekend, and to produce with her a companion CD with exercises to complement the book.

When Dr. Holstein moved her practice to the Miraval Life in Balance resort (also in Tucson) at the end of 2003 in order to pursue more exclusively her interest in sexuality, the four-day couples program caught the interest of producers at the Oprah Winfrey Show, and the resultant interest in participating in the program exploded. It became very clear that a large number of couples have a great hunger for competent and professional guidance and counseling to improving their intimacy and their sexual relationship.

Dr. Taylor seized the opportunity to leave his rehab practice early in 2004, joining his wife and partner of 30 years at Miraval to devote himself full-time to addressing this need and to bringing their vision of soulful, spiritual sexuality to greater fruition.
